Here we are offering a rarely seen (and brilliantly colorful) silk-screened Cuban political poster -- this one released in Havana to show Cuba's solidarity with VENEZUELA. The poster was screen-printed in red, yellow and blue -- the colors of Venezuela's flag. This scarce 12 by 17 inch handmade poster was distributed in 2005 by the Havana-based Organization of Solidarity of the People of Asia, Africa & Latin America (OSPAAAL) as part of a portfolio of 10 silkscreens. Over six decades, OSPAAAL promoted Cuba's solidarity with countries and revolutionary movements in the Third World.

OSPAAAL closed its doors in Havana in June 2019, making many of its famed posters more difficult to find. Solidarity poster in this listing is a mini 2005 silk-screened version of a poster designed in early years by OSPAAAL. The poster cleverly turns what appears to be a rifle into a pencil -- highlighting the Cuban view that education (and literacy) is an integral component of a revolutionary movement. The name of the artist who designed this poster is unknown. Overall condition of the poster is good.
