Cuban movie posters were made using the handmade silkscreen process. Aesthetically, the paint, applied in thick layers gave these posters a unique texture that is closer to a painting than to posters. Artistically they are among the best designed in the world and many prizes were awarded to their creators.

For more information about the history of Cuban posters and his artists, visit my page at. I was told by a former ICAIC employee that in the mid 80's they got a large donation of cardboard sheets that they use to make posters that were easier to handle and last longer. If you are the owner of had seen one of this posters you immediately notice that the quality is far superior because the thickness of the paper tolerates heavier paint. The painting doesn't crack as often as in thin paper making the poster more resistant.

Remember that these posters were hang for public viewing and while the paper posters will rip and break in a Cuban rainy day, these cardboard poster will last much more rain than the others. The best designs were the ones ended up printed on cardboard. My guess is that they ran out of the donation supply. Original Cuban posters are becoming highly collectable and because of their scarcity many are being reproduced. We sell only original posters.

I WILL SEND YOU A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY WITH EACH POSTER. This original poster belongs to a collection that was started by my husband's grandmother in 1973 and it was brought by us to the Unites States from 1998 to 2012 in small batches, due to Cuban and U. S government restrictions on importing or exporting art from the island. Each batch was processed by the Cuban government entity Registro Nacional de Bienes Culturales de la República de Cuba that dates from 1998 to 2012 under my name and my husband's name as permits to take the posters to the United States. I have links in my webpage with pictures of many of the receipts as proof of provenance. During more than 20 years I befriended many of the artists and collectors, read every book and article I could have my hands on and acquired the knowledge to stand by the authenticity of my collection.
